Problem

An electron in a hydrogen atom is raised to the n=6n = 6 state and then allowed to de-excite. Answer the following: (a) Determine the maximum number of spectral lines that can be produced during its complete de-excitation. (b) How many of these lines belong to the Lyman series? (c) Calculate the wavelength of the longest Lyman line produced (give your answer in ångströms).
