Problem

A straight copper wire of length 0.25 m0.25\,\text{m} carries a current of 8.0 A8.0\,\text{A} inside a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 0.50 T0.50\,\text{T}. The wire initially makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the magnetic field. (a) Calculate the magnitude of the magnetic force acting on the wire in this orientation. (b) The wire is then rotated in the same plane until the magnetic force acting on it doubles in magnitude. Calculate the new angle that the wire makes with the magnetic field. (c) Determine the angle at which the force on the wire becomes maximum and state by what factor the initial force found in part (a) increases when this position is reached.
