Problem
A circular loop carrying electric current is held vertically in the north–south plane with its centre at point O.
(a) The current in the loop is clockwise when viewed from the east. State and explain the direction of the magnetic field at O.
(b) Draw a neat sketch showing the pattern of magnetic field lines (i) in the plane of the loop and (ii) along its axis.
(c) At a point P situated on the axis of the loop, slightly away from the centre, will the magnetic field be stronger, weaker or equal to that at O? Give a reason for your answer.
