Problem

A point charge +5.0 nC+5.0\,\text{nC} is fixed at the origin. In addition, a uniform electric field of 2000 N C−12000\,\text{N\,C}^{-1} is directed along the positive xx-axis. An electron (charge −1.6×10−19 C-1.6\times10^{-19}\,\text{C}, mass 9.1×10−31 kg9.1\times10^{-31}\,\text{kg}) is released from rest at point AA whose coordinates are (0.20 m,0.20 m)(0.20\,\text{m},0.20\,\text{m}). (a) Calculate the electric field vector at AA due to the point charge at the origin. (b) Obtain the net electric field vector at AA taking into account both the point charge and the uniform field. (c) Determine the magnitude and direction of the instantaneous acceleration of the electron at the moment it is released.
