Problem

From a square metal sheet of side 28 cm, four quarter-circles each of radius 7 cm are cut away from the corners. A semicircular plate of radius 14 cm is then welded along one side of the remaining sheet, using that entire side as the diameter. Based on this construction, answer the following: (a) Find the area of the final metal design, correct to one decimal place. (b) Calculate the length of its outer boundary, correct to one decimal place. (c) By how many square centimetres does the area of the final design differ from the area of the original square sheet?
