Problem

Let pp be a differentiable function on the closed interval [−3,6][-3,6] with derivative p′p' whose graph is described below. • For −3≤x≤1-3\le x\le1, the graph of p′p' is the upper semicircle of radius 22 centered at (−1,0)(-1,0). • For 1≤x≤61\le x\le6, the graph of p′p' is the line segment joining the points (1,2)(1,2) and (6,−3)(6,-3). Assume p(−3)=4p(-3)=4. (a) Evaluate p(1)p(1) and p(6)p(6). Show your reasoning, including any geometric calculations used. (b) Determine the absolute minimum value of pp on [−3,6][-3,6] and the xx–value at which it occurs. Justify fully, referring to critical points and endpoints as needed. (c) Discuss all intervals on (−3,6)(-3,6) where the concavity of pp changes. Support your conclusions by analyzing how the slope of p′p' varies on each portion of its graph.
