Problem

A candle is lit in a dark room. • The solid wax near the flame softens and forms a clear liquid. • The liquid wax is drawn up the wick and produces a bright flame accompanied by a faint soot deposit on a nearby glass slide. For each of the two observations, classify the change as physical or chemical and justify your choice with one brief piece of evidence.
