Problem

A vertical flag-pole stands on level ground. From point AA on the ground, the angle of elevation of the top of the pole satisfies tan⁡α=34.\tan \alpha = \dfrac{3}{4}. A second point BB lies on the same straight line toward the pole and is 20 m20\,\text{m} nearer to the pole than point AA. From BB, the angle of elevation of the top of the pole is 45∘.45^{\circ}. Using this information, answer the following. (i) Calculate the height of the flag-pole and the distance of point AA from the foot of the pole. (ii) Using your results from part (i), verify the given values of tan⁡α\tan \alpha and tan⁡45∘.\tan 45^{\circ}.
