Problem

A coin lies at the bottom of a tank of water and is viewed vertically from above the surface. (i) The coin appears to be 1.5 m1.5\,\text{m} below the surface. The absolute refractive index of water is 1.331.33. Calculate the real depth of the coin. (ii) Determine the percentage error a person makes if he assumes the apparent depth to be the true depth. (iii) If the coin is now lifted upward by 20 cm20\,\text{cm}, find its new apparent depth when viewed from the same position.
