Four ordered pairs are written on the board: P( 3,  4 )P(\,3,\;4\,), Q( −5,  7 )Q(\,-5,\;7\,), R( −4,  −6 )R(\,-4,\;-6\,) and S( 6,  −2 )S(\,6,\;-2\,). Answer the following questions. (i) Explain how the signs of the abscissa and the ordinate of a point determine the quadrant in which the point lies. (ii) For each of the points P, Q, RP,\,Q,\,R and SS, state the quadrant or the axis on which it is located. (iii) Points PP and SS are joined to form a line segment. Describe, with reasons, whether this segment is parallel to the xx-axis, parallel to the yy-axis, or neither.
