Problem

A particle has velocity v=v0v=v_0 at t=0t=0 and is decelerated at the rate ∣a∣=αv|a|=\alpha\sqrt{v}, where α\alpha is a positive constant. (1) The particle comes to rest at t=2v0αt=\frac{2\sqrt{v_0}}{\alpha}. (2) The particle will come to rest at infinity. (3) The distance travelled by the particle before coming to rest is 2v03/2α\frac{2v_0^{3/2}}{\alpha}. (4) The distance travelled by the particle before coming to rest is 2v03/23α\frac{2v_0^{3/2}}{3\alpha}.
