Problem

A series R–L–CR\text{–}L\text{–}C circuit connected to a 115 V115\,\text{V} (rms), 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz} supply draws a steady rms current of 5 A5\,\text{A}. The rms voltage across the resistor in the circuit is measured to be 100 V100\,\text{V}, and the supply voltage is found to lead the current by 30∘30^{\circ}. (i) Compute the magnitude of the net reactive voltage in the circuit. (ii) Hence find the numerical value of the difference (XL−XC)(X_L - X_C) of the reactances. (iii) If the inductive reactance is twice the capacitive reactance, determine the individual values of XLX_L and XCX_C. (iv) Calculate the rms voltages across the inductor and the capacitor separately.
