Problem
During 600 identical trials of a random experiment, event E was observed in some of the trials.
(i) If the empirical probability of the complement event E′ is 1, determine how many times event E occurred and classify both E and E′.
(ii) Suppose instead that the empirical probability of E is 0.75. Calculate how many times the complement event E′ occurred and verify that the probabilities of E and E′ sum to 1.
(iii) Using the two situations above, state and prove a general statement about the nature of an event when its empirical probability is (a) 0, and (b) 1.
