Problem

A block of mass 2 kg2\,\text{kg} is attached to a horizontal spring of force constant 200 N m−1200\,\text{N\,m}^{-1} placed on a horizontal table. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the table is 0.100.10. The block is slowly pulled so that the spring is extended by xx and is then released from rest. (i) Derive an expression for the speed vv of the block as it passes through the equilibrium position of the spring in terms of mm, kk, μ\mu, gg and the initial extension xx. (ii) Using your expression, calculate vv when x=0.15 mx = 0.15\,\text{m}.
