Problem

A garden sprinkler is fed by a rubber hose through which water flows steadily. (i) The hose has an internal diameter of 6.0 cm and the average speed of water in it is 2.0 m s⁻¹. Calculate the volume flow rate delivered by the hose. (ii) The sprinkler head is essentially a short nozzle that must eject water at 10.0 m s⁻¹. Determine the required exit diameter of the nozzle so that the flow rate found in part (i) is maintained. (iii) If by mistake the exit diameter obtained in part (ii) were made exactly half its correct value, by what factor would the exit speed change for the same inlet conditions? (Assume the water remains incompressible.)
