Problem

Consider a probability function PP defined on a sample space SS. (i) Using the axioms of probability, prove that the probability of the empty set is zero, i.e. P(∅)=0P(\emptyset)=0. (ii) Show that for any event E⊆SE\subseteq S, the inequality 0≤P(E)≤10\le P(E)\le 1 holds. (iii) Prove that P(Ec)=1−P(E)P(E^{c})=1-P(E), where EcE^{c} is the complement of EE in SS. (iv) Deduce from the above results whether the event SS itself is sure or impossible, giving appropriate reasoning.
