Problem

A farmer owns a circular water tank of internal radius 2 m and height 2.5 m. He plans the following work: • Paint the curved inner wall and the circular bottom with waterproof paint costing Rs 65 per square metre (no paint on the top). • Build a circular concrete platform 1 m wide all around the tank at ground level. The platform is 0.25 m thick and only its top surface is to be faced with cement tiles costing Rs 120 per square metre. • Fix a protective barbed-wire fence of 4 strands along the outer edge of the platform. Barbed wire costs Rs 15 per metre. Take π=22/7\pi = 22/7. (i) Calculate the total inner surface area to be painted and find the cost of the paint. (ii) Determine the area of the top of the platform to be tiled and find the cost of tiling. (iii) Calculate the total length of barbed wire required and its cost. (iv) Find the total expenditure on all three items.
