Problem

A family of concentric spherical equipotential surfaces is observed in a certain region of space. Their radii and potentials are listed below: • Radius r1=2 cmr_1 = 2\,\text{cm}, potential V1=120 VV_1 = 120\,\text{V} • Radius r2=4 cmr_2 = 4\,\text{cm}, potential V2=60 VV_2 = 60\,\text{V} • Radius r3=6 cmr_3 = 6\,\text{cm}, potential V3=40 VV_3 = 40\,\text{V} (i) Calculate the magnitude of the electric field in the region (a) between r1r_1 and r2r_2, and (b) between r2r_2 and r3r_3. (ii) Identify the region in which the electric field is stronger and support your answer with numerical values obtained in part (i). (iii) State the direction of the electric field relative to the given potentials for this configuration.
