Problem

A diver initially rests at a depth of 6 m6\,\text{m} in seawater of density 1025 kg m−31025\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}. He then descends to a depth of 20 m20\,\text{m}. (a) Find the gauge pressure acting on the diver at 6 m6\,\text{m}. (b) Calculate the additional force exerted on the diver’s flat chest area of 0.15 m20.15\,\text{m}^{2} when he moves from 6 m6\,\text{m} to 20 m20\,\text{m}. (Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}.)
