Problem
In the simple DC motor described above, the split-ring commutator is replaced with two continuous slip rings while all other parts remain the same.
(i) Predict whether the coil will continue to rotate when connected to the same battery. Give a reason for your answer.
(ii) State the nature (direct or alternating) of the current obtained in the external circuit after this change.
(iii) Explain, with reference to the direction of current in the coil during successive half-turns, why the result stated in part (ii) is obtained.
