Problem
Two point charges are kept on a straight line in vacuum at a fixed separation.
(i) Define the term “neutral point” (or zero–potential point) for this system.
(ii) Using algebraic reasoning, prove that when the two charges are unequal in magnitude but of opposite signs, the neutral point must lie closer to the charge of smaller magnitude.
(iii) If the two charges are equal in magnitude and opposite in sign, determine the exact location of the neutral point with respect to the two charges and justify your answer.
