Problem

For a newly discovered planet, the following data were recorded: – Mass of the planet =4.0×1024 kg=4.0\times10^{24}\,\text{kg} – Radius of the planet =6.0×106 m=6.0\times10^{6}\,\text{m} – Measured surface acceleration due to gravity =11.2 m/s2=11.2\,\text{m/s}^2 (i) Determine the numerical value of the universal gravitational constant GG using these observations. (ii) The accepted value of GG is 6.67×10−11 N m2/kg26.67\times10^{-11}\,\text{N m}^2\text{/kg}^2. Calculate the percentage error in the value obtained in part (i).
