Problem

A force of 200 N200\,\text{N} is applied on a flat metal plate at an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} to the normal of the surface. The area of contact is 25 cm225\,\text{cm}^2. Answer the following: (i) Find the component of the force that acts normal to the surface. (ii) Using this component, calculate the pressure exerted on the plate. (iii) If the same force is applied normally (0∘0^{\circ} to the surface), determine the new pressure and hence find the factor by which the pressure changes.
