Problem

Two poles are 20 m20\,\text{m} apart. A straight, light wire is stretched between their tops, and a traffic light of mass 12 kg12\,\text{kg} is hung at the midpoint, causing the wire to sag by 0.40 m0.40\,\text{m} at that point. Assuming the wire forms two straight segments meeting at the lowest point, calculate the tension in the wire at this lowest point. Take g=9.8 m/s2g = 9.8\,\text{m/s}^2.
