Problem

A car’s master cylinder is on the same horizontal level as the rear wheel cylinders but 0.40 m0.40\,\text{m} higher than the front wheel cylinders. The density of brake fluid is 900 kg m−3900\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}. The master piston has area 2.5 cm22.5\,\text{cm}^2 and the front wheel piston has area 4.0 cm24.0\,\text{cm}^2. If the driver applies a force of 350 N350\,\text{N} on the master piston, calculate the force transmitted to one front wheel piston, taking the hydrostatic height difference into account. (Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2} and neglect all losses.)
