Problem

During an experiment a body moves in a straight line with the following velocity–time variation: for the first 5 s5\,\text{s} its velocity remains constant at 10 m s−110\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}; during the next 5 s5\,\text{s} the velocity decreases uniformly to zero. (i) Describe qualitatively the shape of the velocity–time graph for the entire 10 s10\,\text{s} interval. (ii) Calculate the total displacement of the body in this interval. (iii) Sketch the corresponding position–time graph, marking clearly the change in curvature, and explain what this curvature tells you about the nature of acceleration in each part.
