Problem

Let g(x)=1x,  x≠0g(x)=\dfrac{1}{x},\;x\neq0. (i) Prove that gg is an odd function. (2) (ii) Explain how the result of part (i) can be used to obtain the branch of the graph for x<0x<0 once the branch for x>0x>0 is known. (2) (iii) Prepare a table of at least five convenient points for 0.2≤x≤50.2\le x\le5. Plot these points accurately, draw the branch for x>0x>0, and, using the conclusion of part (ii), complete the branch for x<0x<0. (4) (iv) From your completed sketch, verify graphically that the curve approaches but never touches either coordinate axis. (2)
