Problem

A small oil droplet of mass 5.0×10−15 kg5.0\times10^{-15}\,\text{kg} carries a charge of −3.2×10−19 C-3.2\times10^{-19}\,\text{C}. It is released from rest at the top plate of a horizontal parallel-plate capacitor and falls toward the bottom plate, 1.0 cm below. A uniform upward electric field of 1.8×105 N/C1.8\times10^{5}\,\text{N/C} exists between the plates. Using g=9.8 m/s2g = 9.8\,\text{m/s}^2, determine the speed of the droplet just before it reaches the bottom plate.
