Problem
A conical nozzle is machined at the end of a horizontal pipeline carrying water.
(i) The inlet diameter of the nozzle (where it joins the pipe) is 8 cm and its length is 25 cm. The half-angle of the cone is 5°. Calculate the diameter of the outlet of the nozzle.
(ii) Water enters the nozzle with a speed of 1.5 m s⁻¹. Determine the speed of water at the outlet, assuming incompressible steady flow.
(iii) Find the ratio of the kinetic energies per unit volume of water at the outlet and at the inlet.
