Problem

Two prisms each of apex angle 5∘5^{\circ} are made of different optical glasses. For the same monochromatic light, the refractive indices are μ1=1.46\mu_1 = 1.46 (silica) and μ2=1.62\mu_2 = 1.62 (flint). (i) Calculate separately the approximate deviations d1d_1 and d2d_2 produced by the two prisms. (ii) Determine the ratio d2/d1d_2/d_1 and comment on which prism produces the larger deviation and why.
