Problem

The region between x=0x=0 and x=Lx=L is filled with a uniform steady magnetic field −B0k-B_0\boldsymbol{k}. A particle of mass mm, positive charge qq, and velocity v0iv_0\boldsymbol{i} travels along the xx-axis and enters the magnetic-field region. Neglect gravity throughout the question. (a) Find the value of LL if the particle emerges from the magnetic-field region with its final velocity at an angle 30∘30^\circ to its initial velocity. (b) Find the final velocity of the particle and the time spent by it in the magnetic field if the magnetic field now extends up to 2.1L2.1L.
