Problem

Two blocks of masses m1=3.0 kgm_1 = 3.0\,\text{kg} and m2=2.0 kgm_2 = 2.0\,\text{kg} are connected by a light inextensible string that passes over a small smooth pulley fixed at the top of a rough fixed incline of angle 35∘35^{\circ} to the horizontal. The block of mass m1m_1 rests on the incline, while m2m_2 hangs freely. When the system is released from rest, it is observed that the blocks move with an acceleration of 0.50 m s−20.50\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}, the hanging block moving downward. (i) Draw separate free–body diagrams for m1m_1 and m2m_2. (ii) Obtain the two simultaneous equations of motion for the blocks. (iii) Solve the equations to find the tension in the string. (iv) Hence determine the coefficient of kinetic friction between m1m_1 and the incline.
