Problem

A circular spinner is divided into eight equal sectors numbered 1 to 8. The spinner is spun once. (i) Write the sample space for this experiment. (ii) Event H is "the pointer stops at a number greater than 0". Determine the probability of H and classify the event as certain, impossible, or neither, giving reasons. (iii) Event J is "the pointer stops at a number greater than 10". Determine the probability of J and classify the event as certain, impossible, or neither, giving reasons. (iv) The organiser wishes to renumber the same eight sectors so that the event K: "pointer stops at an even number" becomes a certain event. Suggest one possible way to renumber the sectors and justify how your suggestion meets the requirement. (v) After the modification in part (iv), describe one event L on the same spinner that would now be impossible, and state its probability.
