Problem

A 12 Ω12\,\Omega resistor is connected in series with a parallel combination of two resistors 6 Ω6\,\Omega and 3 Ω3\,\Omega. A switch SS is connected so that it is in series with the 3 Ω3\,\Omega branch only. The entire circuit is connected to a 24 V24\,\text{V} ideal battery. (a) With switch SS open: (i) Find the total resistance of the circuit. (ii) Calculate the current supplied by the battery. (b) With switch SS closed: (i) Find the new total resistance of the circuit. (ii) Calculate the new current drawn from the battery. (iii) Determine the power dissipated in each resistor under this condition.
