Problem

A thin rod of length LL has a linear mass density that varies with distance xx from one end according to λ(x)=λ0x\lambda(x)=\lambda_0 x. (i) Obtain an expression for the total mass MM of the rod in terms of λ0\lambda_0 and LL. (ii) Hence derive an expression for its moment of inertia about the end x=0x=0 in terms of MM and LL.
