Problem

Two angles are given as α=8.90\alpha = 8.90 radians and β=−3π5\beta = -\dfrac{3\pi}{5} radians. (i) Find γ=α+β\gamma = \alpha + \beta in radian measure, simplifying as far as possible. (ii) Determine whether γ\gamma is positive or negative and obtain an equivalent principal value of γ\gamma lying between −π-\pi and π\pi radians. (iii) Convert the principal value found in part (ii) to decimal degrees correct to two decimal places. (iv) Express the result of part (iii) in degrees–minutes–seconds (DMS) form, rounding the seconds to the nearest whole number. (v) State in which quadrant the terminal side of the principal value of γ\gamma lies.
