Problem

Two children start simultaneously from the same radial line on two concentric circular tracks whose radii are 25 m25\,\text{m} and 40 m40\,\text{m} respectively. Each child turns through an angle of 45∘45^{\circ} measured at the common centre. (i) Calculate the distance travelled by the child on the inner track. (ii) Calculate the distance travelled by the child on the outer track. (iii) Determine the ratio of the distances travelled and comment briefly on why the two values differ.
