Problem

An automobile engine drives a crankshaft that rotates at a constant rate during a particular test. A tachometer records the cumulative number of complete revolutions of the crankshaft at several times, as shown in the table below. Time tt (s): 0 2 4 6 8 Revolutions since t=0t=0: 0 1440 2880 4320 5760 (a) Determine the rotational frequency of the crankshaft in revolutions per second. Clearly outline your method. (b) Convert the frequency found in part (a) to angular speed in radians per second. (c) Compute the period of one complete revolution of the crankshaft. (d) During acceleration the period decreases by 15\%. Calculate the new rotational frequency and discuss how this change would be reflected on the vehicle’s tachometer, which reads in revolutions per minute (rpm).
