Problem

A flywheel has an initial angular velocity of 40 rad s−140\,\text{rad s}^{-1}. Due to friction, its angular velocity drops uniformly to 20 rad s−120\,\text{rad s}^{-1} in 10 s10\,\text{s}. (i) Calculate the angular acceleration acting on the flywheel. (ii) Find the angular displacement during these 10 s10\,\text{s}. (iii) Assuming the same constant angular retardation continues, determine the additional time required for the flywheel to come to rest after the 10 s10\,\text{s} interval. (iv) Compute the extra angle through which the flywheel will rotate while coming to rest, and hence obtain the total angle turned from the start until it stops.
