Problem

A ceiling fan initially rotates at 120 rev min−1120\,\text{rev}\,\text{min}^{-1} in the counter-clockwise direction. The fan is switched off and slows down with a constant angular deceleration until it comes to rest 15 s15\,\text{s} later. Respond to each part, showing all steps clearly. (a) Determine the magnitude of the angular deceleration in rad s−2\text{rad}\,\text{s}^{-2}. (b) Calculate the total number of revolutions the fan makes while coming to rest. (c) Find the time required for the fan to slow from its initial speed to 60 rev min−160\,\text{rev}\,\text{min}^{-1}. State whether the fan is still rotating in the same direction at that instant and justify your conclusion.
