Problem

Answer the following questions related to uniformly accelerated motion. (i) Derive an expression that relates the final velocity vv, the initial velocity uu, the constant acceleration aa, and the displacement ss of a body moving in a straight line with uniform acceleration, eliminating the time variable from the equations of motion. (ii) An automobile is moving at u=6 m s−1u = 6\,\text{m s}^{-1} along a straight road. It accelerates uniformly at a=1.5 m s−2a = 1.5\,\text{m s}^{-2}. Using the expression obtained in part (i), calculate the speed of the automobile after it has travelled s=60 ms = 60\,\text{m}. (iii) How much additional distance will the automobile cover while its speed increases further from the value found in part (ii) to v=20 m s−1v = 20\,\text{m s}^{-1}, if the same acceleration is maintained?
