Problem

Two thin convex lenses A and B have focal lengths of 2.5 cm2.5\,\text{cm} and 4.0 cm4.0\,\text{cm} respectively. Each is used separately as a simple magnifier by a person whose least distance of distinct vision is 25 cm25\,\text{cm}, viewing with the eye relaxed (final image at infinity). (i) Calculate the magnifying power of lens A. (ii) Calculate the magnifying power of lens B. (iii) Which lens gives the larger magnification and by what factor does it exceed the other?
