Problem

A circular piston of a press has diameter 15 cm15\,\text{cm}. The manufacturer specifies that the operating pressure on the piston surface must not exceed 1.2×105 Pa1.2\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa}. (i) Calculate the maximum permissible force that can act normally on this piston. (ii) A worker places a 100 kg100\,\text{kg} weight on the piston. Taking g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}, state with calculation whether this weight stays within the safe limit.
