Problem

A spherical metal conductor of radius 4.0 cm4.0\,\text{cm} starts electrically neutral. A negatively charged rod is used in a charging sequence that includes grounding the sphere. During grounding, 3.0 nC3.0\,\text{nC} of charge leaves the sphere and flows to Earth. After the ground wire is removed and the rod is taken far away, calculate the sphere’s surface charge density σ\sigma in C/m2\text{C/m}^2.
