Problem

For a real parameter k (k≠0)k\,(k\neq0), consider the family of functions fk(x)=k 2xf_{k}(x)=k\,2^{x}. (i) Prove that the range of fkf_{k} is (0,∞)(0,\infty) when k>0k>0 and (−∞,0)(-\infty,0) when k<0k<0. (ii) Hence determine all real values of kk for which the range of fkf_{k} contains the number 33. (iii) If k=−6k=-6, a vertical translation of fkf_{k} by 88 units upwards gives s(x)=−6 2x+8s(x)=-6\,2^{x}+8. Find the domain and range of s(x)s(x), justifying every statement.
