Problem
A crate of mass 20kg is pulled up a rough inclined plane that makes an angle of 30∘ with the horizontal. The pulling force acts parallel to the incline and produces a uniform acceleration of 1.2ms−2 up the slope. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the crate and the plane is 0.15. At the instant under study the speed of the crate is 4ms−1.
(i) Determine the net force acting on the crate along the incline.
(ii) Calculate the magnitude of the pulling force applied along the incline.
(iii) Evaluate the instantaneous power being delivered by this pulling force at the instant when the crate’s speed is 4ms−1.
