Problem

(Satellite motion along a circular orbit) (a) A weather satellite travels along a circular orbit of radius 7.0×106 m7.0 \times 10^{6}\,\text{m}. During a certain interval it covers an arc length of 1.1×107 m1.1 \times 10^{7}\,\text{m}. (b) (a) Determine the angular displacement of the satellite in radians, correct to three significant figures. (c) (b) Express the same angular displacement in degrees, minutes, and seconds of arc. (d) (c) How many complete revolutions has the satellite executed during this interval? Express the remainder, if any, as a radian measure. (e) (d) If the satellite’s tangential speed is 7.5 km s−17.5\,\text{km\,s}^{-1}, calculate the time taken to sweep the given arc and hence find its average angular speed in rad\,s−1^{-1} during this interval.
