Problem

Answer the following questions with reference to junctions in an electrical circuit. (i) Define the terms (a) node and (b) branch as used in circuit theory. (ii) State Kirchhoff’s current law and briefly explain the physical principle on which it is based. (iii) Show, using suitable algebraic signs, that the algebraic sum of all currents at a junction is zero. (iv) At a certain junction JJ, currents of 4 A4\,\text{A} and I (A)I\,(\text{A}) enter the junction while currents of 2 A2\,\text{A} and 1 A1\,\text{A} leave it. Using Kirchhoff’s current law, calculate the value of II. Indicate clearly whether the current of magnitude II enters or leaves the junction.
