Problem

A scooter starts from rest at a traffic signal and travels along a straight road according to the following schedule: Stage 1: It accelerates uniformly for 4 s4\,\text{s} with a1=3 m/s2a_1 = 3\,\text{m/s}^2. Stage 2: It then continues with the speed reached at the end of stage 1 for the next 6 s6\,\text{s}. Answer the questions below. Take the direction of motion as positive. (i) Calculate the speed of the scooter at the end of the first 4 s4\,\text{s}. (ii) Find the displacement covered during stage 1. (iii) Determine the displacement covered during stage 2. (iv) Obtain the total displacement for the entire 10 s10\,\text{s} journey and sketch a labelled velocity–time graph for the motion.
