Problem

A choke coil of inductance 0.10 H0.10\,\text{H} and resistance 5 Ω5\,\Omega is connected to a 220 V220\,\text{V} (rms), 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz} mains supply. (i) Calculate the inductive reactance of the coil at the supply frequency. (ii) Determine the rms current drawn from the source. (iii) Compute the average power consumed by the coil. (iv) Calculate the ratio of the average power to the apparent power VIVI and comment on whether the current in this practical choke can still be regarded as nearly wattless.
